UPDATE #2
A second hotel has been added: The Holiday Inn at Mart Plaza is offering block rates to HowdyCon 2018 at $189.00 per night. This is a lovely hotel with great amenities (indoor pool!) and is a little less expensive than the Marriott. Be advised, the Holiday Inn does not offer free breakfast, though breakfast is available for purchase.

The Holiday Inn is about 4 blocks from the Marriott, so it is within walking distance. Also, parking at this hotel is $41.00 per day. I just sent the contract back today (Friday, 2-9-2018) so give them a couple days to get us into the system. Same applies to the Marriott, though we should be in their system soon.
SPEAKING OF PARKING...........mea culpa - I should have added information on this earlier! The parking at the Marriott is a valet service and is $65.00 a day. Now, since we don't have a billion dollar organization footing the bill for our unconventional convention, this is a crazy price.
There are at least a dozen parking facilities within walking distance of both hotels. I will begin to contact them and see if we can get some short term parking deals. If you are not planning on driving your car around the city and if you are planning on visiting museums, Michigan Avenue, etc, you will not be able to find free parking (or it will be very difficult - unless you are OT and can make a parking spot appear). You'll wind up paying for parking at every attraction. I would strongly advise parking your car and using public transportation, cabs or Uber/Lyft.
There is also a FREE parking option. If you do not plan on using your car, I can show you where it will be safe to leave your car unattended for 3-4 days. There is ample on the street parking in the neighborhoods, if you know where to look. You can park your car on the street, take a bus/train (or Uber) back to the hotel and pick up your car on the way out of town. Not the most convenient method, but it is an option.
The primary reason for choosing these hotels was their walking distance/ proximity to various sightseeing attractions. If you are not the walking type, public transportation in Chicago is excellent. And you can buy a 3 day pass which will get you on the CTA (Chicago Transit Authority) buses and trains (not Metra - Metra is the commuter train line which services the city and suburbs).
As I mentioned, I will be exploring the parking pass possibilities. I will ask Our Proprietor to let everyone know when I update the website, or you can check back from time to time,
We have been very cognizant of cost and are trying to keep everything as reasonably priced as possible. Price will be the primary consideration on any planned group activities! If I become aware of any kind of deals for sightseeing activities, I will post the information
Thank you!
